Spotlight on Jinny Beyer

jb1

“For the past 2 years, I have been a guest quilter on the Sew Many Places India quilting and textile tour. This collection is inspired by these tours to India and Delhi. In fact, a lot of my quilting and border designs are influenced by my passion for Indian textiles. The rich paisleys and vibrant colorations in this line are taken from Indian woodblock prints, tapestries, and embroidery that I collect on my travels. Pressed Leaf (style 2453) is re-introduced from my previous Renaissance Garden collection, but in all-new colorations.”

I collected fat quarters from every place we visited for the first 25 years we were married and used many of them to make 2 King size quilts using the Turning 20s pattern. Love them both and am collecting for another quilt for the next 25 years. Probably before that but definitely another.

My husband and I took a trip to Portugal a couple of years ago. This was our “big” trip, after raising the kids and taking little short trips. One of the things I “had” to do was to find some fabric in Portugal. The effort that took was incredible as most of the fabrics are for fashion and to find just “cotton” was almost impossible. With help of a GPS and our Portuguese friend, we found a tiny little shop in an upper story apartment. We would have never found it ourselves! I still have that fabric waiting for a special project — but every time I look at it, I remember our adventure finding the shop and the joy of that teeny little shop with those few bolts of fabric! Retrosaria will be a great memory for me!

I love the prints and designs of paisley’s and the colors also. But it is the reverse for me. The colors of South America is calling me to visit. Hoping to go in about 3 years. But India has given us the paisley and the paisley calls to me. Appliqued and embellished or as a quilting design. You can do so much with it. Diane in Wyoming

A recent Graduation Quilt was inspired by a trip to a quilt shop in Bemidji, Mn. My granddaughter who was about 5 years old at the time liked on of the quilts hanging in the shop/ I bought the kit and made it for her for her graduation from Fosston High School this year. I did add a broader to make it twin size. I do have a street address for UPS.

I am not able to travel any longer. But when I did it was before my quilting time began. My special interests have encouraged me to read many books before and after traveling to to build depth in my understanding of place and history. I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge. Since I began quilting I read for pleasure and information much less. I spend my time now taking the challenge to use my skills making Jinny’s recent designs the Craftsy quilt, and her Red Fort. I have a basket full of kits waiting for me to have time to work on them. I travel round the world vicariously with Jinny enjoying every minute.
