A visit to Istanbul left me with lasting impressions begging to be interpreted into a fabric collection. The Sultan’s Garden is reminiscent of a magical time; the time of the sultans, an era of ornate palaces, bazaars piled high with silk carpets, intricate mosaic patterns covering harem walls, and glimpses of swirling colored fabrics hidden behind marble screens. The elements in the line are adapted from the iconic imagery I extracted from the Turkish culture, then added a bit of my aesthetic, and infused into my patterns. The focal is a tulip, a symbol of the Ottoman Renaissance. Amulet is inspired by the ‘evil eye’ a popular good-luck charm made to ward off jealous eyes.
The Sultan’s Garden is offered in two colorful palettes. Sunny apricot and watery turquoise hues define one color combination. A second color story features berry inspired lavenders set on a backdrop of subdued natural greens.
Leave a comment below about a trip that inspired a quilt project for a chance to win fabric cuts of Mary McGuire’s latest fabric collection, Sultan’s Garden, hitting stores now!

Lynette Anderson got into quilting when she worked on her baby quilt for her first born. She has the quilt still and used it as an inspiration for her new pattern, which will be available on her website soon. She has recently reworked her design to incorporate fabrics from her fabrics lines with RJR; Bread and Butter and Pocket Full of Daisies. I love the crib size baby quilt, the stitchery is lovely.
SKU’s used are: Floral 2002-003, Stripe 2007-001, and Grey 2407-001.
Share with us your first quilt design and #quilwithlove story to be entered in to win a fat quarter bundle of some of her Bread and Butter collection.
Second entry is if you sign-up for Lynette Anderson’s newsletter and leave a comment here.

This fun pattern, Woodland and Stuft Napper, is a fun sleeper for any child sleepover.
With schools starting now or at least very soon, Sue has some fun backpack patterns. The start of Kindergarten couldn’t be more exciting.
Rachael’s home near Wanaka in New Zealand’s South Island is neighbored by a farm, which is what inspired the mother-daughter duo to choose apples as their theme for their next line. Christine’s daily foraging for wild apples with her grandchildren inspired her to infuse the line with apple trees and apples, and she spared no design.
The quilt is a kit project, designed by Kids Quilts, Fun On The Farm (9653-38) – designed for boys and girls alike. Fun on the Farm captures the spirit of Apple Hill Farm in vibrant colors and crisp white borders. This crib quilt is easy to finish and perfect for a beginning quilter wanting to learn raw edge appliqué. It finishes at 44 by 53 inches.
