Today is National Sewing Machine Day! Today is the day that we celebrate taking out our sewing machines and enjoying the technological advancement for sewing with a machine. My mother grew up telling me that HAND was a four letter word and so she would only sew by machine and not by hand. Now for me, I enjoy all forms of sewing and truly prefer sewing by hand. However, I do love my machines, I’ve become hooked!
To be entered into the giveaway:
1st Entry: Please leave a comment below about your favorite feature of your sewing machine!
2nd Entry: Leave a comment if you follow us on Instagram, @rjrfabrics
I typically gravitate toward bold and bright colors, especially rainbow themed designs. However, I wanted to experiment with a new color palette inspired by the colors we’re using in our fixer-upper-renovation home. I find this palette is very reminiscent to me of Lake Michigan – where my husband grew up. Everything from stormy lake skies to summer sea grass to moonlit lake water is reflected in this palette. It’s soothing and peaceful and makes me so content.
Here are the colors that are selected from the Cotton Supreme Solids.
Optical White, Argento, Overcast Tourmaline, Glow In The Dark, Sprout Sea Glass, Meadowland, Toy Boat Cove, Notting Hill, Tiffany Box Cloud 9, Carolina, Pool Side Celeste, Hyacinth, Verbena
My original plan was this design – my own, although a somewhat simple take on squares, HSTs, and strips. I love the movement of one tonal jewel to the next.
I quilted it with my own style: Sketchbook Quilting. I’ve doodled for years and years and finally realized my doodling transfers to quilting perfectly.
I quilted each “section” with different Aurifil colors – integrating and blending the tonal flow.
And lastly…I had a handful of random pieces left, so I decided to make up a lined pouch using metallic silver thread and leather.
The pouch is so fun to me!! I am able to store colored pencils, iPad Mini, or other nic-nacs…or fold it in half for a cute summer clutch!
As of now, I maintain all my business, custom orders, videos, patterns, etc. via Instagram (@sariditty) or on a little Facebook page: www.facebook.com/designsbysari.

“For the past 2 years, I have been a guest quilter on the Sew Many Places India quilting and textile tour. This collection is inspired by these tours to India and Delhi. In fact, a lot of my quilting and border designs are influenced by my passion for Indian textiles. The rich paisleys and vibrant colorations in this line are taken from Indian woodblock prints, tapestries, and embroidery that I collect on my travels. Pressed Leaf (style 2453) is re-introduced from my previous Renaissance Garden collection, but in all-new colorations.”
There are two versions of the Sampler Quilt Along project with Sandra Clemons. She shows us two versions, the Summer Day and the Summer night version.
Hi, I’m Rebecca from the North of England, UK. My background is in Graphic Design and I juggle my job as Senior Artworker in the charity sector with looking after my two boys. I’ve been quilting for a couple of years but it’s only over the past twelve months that I’ve become more serious and passionate about it. I’m a self-taught quilter and enjoy doing my own thing, which basically means making it up as I go along! I particularly love English Paper Piecing and was keen to see how RJR Solids would work for an EPP project.
It was a pleasure to meet with Patrick Lose at Spring Quilt Market 2015 in Minneapolis this past May. Here he is in our RJR Booth at Spring Quilt Market 2015 standing in front of two quilts (Veranda by Gateway Quilt ‘N Stuff and Southern Belle by Project House 360) featuring his fabric line Katherine Ann. He has a vibrant personality with many ideas. Make sure to stay posted as there are a lot of fun projects coming along this Summer as well as to debut at Fall Market. Check out his Facebook page here to stay up to date, as well.
